post event

Well we all had a great three days.  Sun, wind, rain , snow, drama, joy, and no tears.

And we have all come back a little bit fitter.

The unexpected ending

Well everybody was up early and ready to go.   Justin had to head off home for some prior commitments so he was sleeping in.
We came out of a flat on the car.   So we had to wait around till the tyres centres opened.  We grabbed a breakfast at Tescos.
The tyre store was going to take hours to locate us one.  So we had to find a bigger one.
This added some significant delays to the day.
It was decided to scrub Scafell as we could not complete it in the time we had.  So we went to the lake district for lunch and then off home.
We will schedule Scafell in for a weekend trip.

Carlisle

Well into Carlisle for the night.   The hotel was so so but still everybody attended their injuries and off to bed.

Ben Nevis the return

Well half way up one of the member had to turn back due to injury.  The other three hiked onwards to the top.  They made it several hours later.  There are some great photos they took in the snow covered top.

Then the hike back brought them back for 6:30pm.

The long drive to Carlisle now-  John it rested and ready for the drive.

Ben Nevis trek

In Fort Williams and ready to go.  The weather is clear and warm. A lot different than yesterday

So the hike started with a target time of around 6 hours.

Here are some photos of the hike

Final briefing

Well we had the final run through discussion tonight.  We reviewed the timetables, routes, and distances.

Looks aok and we are all in agreement.

The plan is to meet at Terry's at 6am and be on the road before 6:30 am

Weather looks OK for the three days.   At least it will have cooled from the high heat from the last couple of days.

Ben Nevis looks pretty clear.

So good to go.

Just need to find our driver - He has gone AWOL.

Next update will be early Thursday morning.

one week to go

One week till the trip.

The big worry was the snow on Ben Nevis.  But with the warm spell it has been melting rapidly.  The latest webcam screen shot shows it has receded quite a bit

The long range forecast is good.

On the Tuesday before we hike Snowdon the 2012 Olympic torch will be up the peak as well.
